Jenny. So you know,
00:02
very well that Shakira isn't the only artist and philanthropist in her
00:06
family. Oh, yeah,
00:07
that family is full of talent.
00:09
Yeah. Big time.
00:10
Last year, her niece Isabella Nevada went viral for a sweatshirt
00:14
design of Shakira's famous Las mujeres.
00:16
No, Yoran, las mujeres Furan lyric period.
00:20
Now the artist is back in the headlines for another one
00:23
of her art pieces.
00:25
But instead of telling you about it,
00:26
we brought Isabella Memba,
00:28
the artist herself to talk to us about her newest work of
00:31
art titled From the River to the Sea.
00:33
Welcome, Isabella. Hi,
00:34
Isabella. Hi. Thank you guys so much.
00:37
No, thank you for joining us.
00:39
So what were you doing when you were inspired to create this
00:42
work of art? I was actually at my parents' house in
00:46
Miami and I created the piece when I was finally out of
00:53
the paralysis phase of like sadness and anger and into like the
00:57
action phase. So I asked my mom if she could
01:01
buy me a watermelon while she was at the grocery store and
01:05
she was like, yeah,
01:06
sure, whatever. And she thought I was gonna eat it
01:10
But instead I cut it open and,
01:12
you know, I just started drawing it.
01:15
I didn't have any plans for it yet.
01:17
I'm just was drawing from like emotions and reason.
01:22
You know, I just,
01:24
I needed to get something out,
01:27
you know, at what point did you decide that this is
01:29
a piece that you wanted to kind of use to raise funds
01:33
for Gaza and for Palestinians in Gaza.
01:36
Yeah. So originally,
01:37
you know, I had just made it for myself,
01:39
but at some point,
01:40
it kind of clicked that I could use the prints as a
01:44
micro fundraiser to actually help the people directly.
01:48
No. Yeah. And hopefully by having you on and sharing
01:51
this amazing story behind it.
01:52
Like we get more people kind of aware about the situation and
01:56
redirect them over to your site so that they can also,
01:59
you know, join in the cause and help raise some funds
02:02
for the people that really,
02:03
really need it. I wanted to ask too,
02:05
how did your collab on Shakira's Las Mujeres Furan sweatshirt happen?
02:09
Like, can you tell us details when I first listened to
02:13
the song? I became aess like we all did.
02:17
So I was just like repeating it over and over and
02:19
over and while I was on the subway,
02:23
I was like drawing on my ipad and I drew that exact
02:28
sketch. I sent it to my mom because she has a
02:31
t-shirt business. So I was like,
02:33
oh maybe you can like print these T shirts and like just
02:35
sell it to people and she ended up sending it to my
02:39
aunt and she loved it.
02:42
So she pitched it to her team and that's how it all
02:45
started. Awesome. That is awesome.
02:49
Oh, she's really,
02:50
really amazing. Amazing.
02:53
Where can people find your art piece so that they can also
02:57
participate for themselves. It's Mer art.com on Instagram.
03:02
I'm Isabella Mera as well.
03:05
And you can find all my links there.
03:07
Thank you so much.
03:08
Thank you so, so much,
03:09
so much for having me plenty time.
03:11
No, I need to look that website up because I need
03:16
to buy me a print.
